SHAGGY:
Someone posted this on another forum...and i found it interesting since i recently invested in an extraordinary relaxtion tape from Asher (the fellow who posts the numbers each morning). It's unlike anything I've heard, and certainly very effective. Odd the way all of a sudden many people will be thinking of the same things at the same time.
"I have a hypnosis CD that uses relaxing music, visualizations and affirmations
to help achieve ones goals. Relationships, money, weight loss etc. Any one out
there in commodity land working with these techniques? Any interesting personal
experiences? Any one notice the simmilarities between
different authors? I did a
Google search on the affirmations subject and got some adds by Jake Bernstein
( i think) specificaly for trading. Any comments?"

I think I could've used that CD today Shaggy!

LOL! No kidding! I must say today's little "surprise" was somewhat stressful.....UNDERSTATEMENT!!!
PIT BULL
Yeah - so why do you need that stuff?
Sorry...I don't buy into all that psycho babble.
ASHER - PIT BULL
Mostly, I too whince at psycho-babble and overwhininess. [Course, after say 15 loosers in a row, you can surely imagine a trader might get a little trigger-shy.] Never had jangled nerves after a wicked day trading? Never carried the din of the markets home with you after the closing bell? How do YOU deal with it? Maybe one person' s discipline is another persons psycho-babble.
For me, somehow chanting "affirmations" always seemed like lying to myself, and anyhow who's got the patience? Besides,we all know Ali was the greatest! I once tried a program that flashes subliminal affirmations on the puter screen while you work. Was I a nervous wreck after a few hours of that!!! Deleted it.
On the other hand, a good trading course/book should enable me to visualize a certain method. Writing up a plan firms up the image. Then gotta paper-trade it, repeatedly invisioning the trade and its contingencies till it becomes second nature. Adjust the plan and start trading, all the while visualizing the set up, entry, stops, and exit. Watch the tape, visualizing possible market action that would contradict my analysis and make the trade not as originally/ideally visualized. And so on ad nauseum. Visualization IS trading, sort of. Ain't it?
SHAGGY
Psycho-babble. Gotta love that phrase!
Ashers tape is very beautiful and soothing, and of course like nothing I've ever heard. Sometimes NPR gets a little grating with it's opera and bluegrass...especially at bedtime!
As for "visualization"...you will never convince me it doesn't have a place in the grand scheme of things, although possibly what i mean by visualization is nothing at all along the lines of what...um..Keith...was referring to.
Affirmations? Have no idea! But "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast, To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak" mo gradh.
ASHER - SHAGGY
Ha, I wish it were my tape. Actually, it was conceived and produced by my friend A. Mehl. He's a music and composition graduate, a certified digital sound engineer, a hi-tech geek, a long-term student of EEG biofeedback and Kabbalah, and a fledgling trader. In short the "stress-free trading" audio tape is his genius!
Spend some time alone in the forest, quiet except for the chirping of the birds and the ongoing rushing of the nearby stream. Feel the jangles of the city (market) drain off. Those are exactly the calming sounds you hear in the background of the tape.
The foreground "music" is strains of a chassidic chant/song, used in kabbalistic meditation for centuries, "Outpouring of the Soul". [BTW, the violin you sometimes can hear picking up the chant is played by a reknowned child prodigy, recently from Russia.] Talk about mellow and beautiful!
But the real uniqueness of this exquitite tapestry is the subliminal [you don't hear them on a conscious level] use of psycho-acoustic pulsations tuned to theta brain wavelengh. Theta is the brain wave state of deep relaxation and emotional healing. Mehl explained the trick to me. The stereo tracks are actually tuned slightly differntly, one from the other. This causes the brain itself to generate a third theta wave, a binural beat. Thus, this is not solely something imposed from the outside. Your brain actually becomes entrained to generate theta waves! You maintain control of your brain state equilibrium. You can think clearly. You are more relaxed and confident. I've received spontaneous testimonials from all but one of the people who purchased the tape. Hmmm, gonna have to write him a letter and ask, "Whassup?".
This masterpiece weaves all of these relaxation elements together into a pleasing auditory experience that, quite simply, really works. This can quite possibly give you the edge you need to succeed.
Sorry to go on and on, but, in case you didn't guess, I'm mucho impressed. All for the price of a commission or two!!!
GUNTER K - PIT BULL
Hit PB, you wrote "... the easy way out instead of the tough road of self-discipline..."
One of my iron-clad rules of trading discipline is....
I don't trade when I am angry or upset... I don't trade when I am depressed... I don't trade after I had an argument with my wife or my neighbor... I don't trade when I am sick
I set up these rules because I am fully aware that I don't trade well when my mind is in turmoil or not functioning at full capacity for whatever reasons.
Even under normal conditions, a good portion of a trader's losses does not come from faulty analysis, but from an impulsive deviation from a trading plan, or a breakdown of discipline. (that's why paper trading is so easy, and real trading is not).
If a trader needs music or subliminal messages to create the proper mental attitude or to make his mind work at peak performance, so be it. If such a tape can prevent just one bad trade, then the $20 bucks spent on Asher's tape is well spent.
I don't know, if this tape will do it for me, but I just ordered it from Asher.
I also believe that many of our trading friends would be better off paying more attention to esoteric issues, such as the mental component of trading, rather than chasing after the newest indicator.
Just my opinion....
